Our spring updates to MWP Cloud – including NonprofitPress, CreatorPress, and Nodes – had a ton of helpful features and quality-of-life improvements. One of the killer new features hasn’t had much spotlight… until now!
Progressive Web Apps (PWA) have become increasingly popular in recent years, and for good reason. One of the key benefits of having PWA capabilities on your website is the potential to significantly boost engagement. PWAs combine the best of both worlds, offering users the convenience and accessibility of a mobile app with the simplicity and universality of a website.
Why a PWA?
PWAs can enhance user engagement in several ways. Firstly, they are designed to be fast and responsive, even in areas with poor internet connectivity. This means that users can quickly and easily access your website regardless of their location or internet speed, resulting in a smoother and more seamless browsing experience. Additionally, PWAs can be installed on users’ devices, allowing them to access your website without the need for a web browser. This level of accessibility and convenience is highly valued by users, and can help to increase their engagement with your website.
Another key benefit of PWAs is their ability to provide a personalized and immersive experience for users. With features such as push notifications, offline functionality, and the ability to save preferences and data, PWAs can help to create a more personalized and engaging experience for users. By leveraging these features, you can keep users coming back to your website, boosting engagement and helping to build a loyal user base.
Overall, the benefits of having PWA capabilities on your website are clear. By offering users a fast, accessible, and personalized browsing experience, PWAs can help to significantly boost engagement and improve the overall user experience on your website.
So how do we get started?
That’s the best part – it’s already done! We’ve added PWA for WP to our collection of bundled plugins, so your site already has the capabilities. Even better for our customers on NonprofitPress: it’s already configured!
Cool cool cool, how do I use it?
Just install and you’re good to go! Here are the basic steps for each platform:
On an Android or Windows-powered device, open your website in Chrome, Brave, or Edge (the new, chromium-based Edge). Once loaded, you’ll see a new icon in your address bar – some Android devices may show a banner, too. Tap the “Install” button and watch the magic happen.
On macOS, you can do the same with Chrome or Brave… go to your site and tap the Install button in the address bar.
NEW: iOS and iPadOS now support PWAs!! Open your site in Safari, tap the share button, then Add to Home Screen. Viola – your web app is now installed on iOS.
